THE SOCCER CLUB OF MAINE.
Over five years in the making, Portland Hearts of Pine will kick off in USL League One at the historic Fitzpatrick Stadium in March of 2025.
Our Story
We started as a culture-led, community-built, and city-backed movement to bring professional soccer to Portland and the state of Maine. Our goal was simple: to create an elite club that reflects the character of Maine and drives economic, community, and cultural value to the city and state.
As Maine’s only professional club, we represent a people, place, and purpose. This club is a reflection of the diverse communities and cultures of Maine, from the Highlands to Downeast, Casco Bay to Acadia, Aroostook to the Forest City.
Our Mission
Rally the community and culture of Maine around soccer.
Our Vision
Create a purpose-driven club that represents and benefits all who have their hearts in Maine.
The Dirigo Heart
The Dirigo Heart is the club’s unique interpretation of ‘Dirigo’ (State Motto; Latin for “I lead”), replacing the traditional star seen across Maine iconography with a heart derived from Portland’s Valentine’s Day Bandit tradition, surrounded by illuminating rays.
The Ocean
Waves celebrate Maine’s proud maritime history and the working waterfronts up and down the coast, which are the lifeblood of our state.
OUR CREST
The Scroll
HEARTS OF PINE is displayed in a scroll, a nod to Maine’s literary contributions, from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow to Stephen King today, and a reference to the state seal on which a scroll holds the state’s name.
The Typeface
The crest features the custom typeface ‘Pine Bandit’ with PORTLAND arched across the heart shape to mimic how the letters wrap around the windows of the 19th Century Portland Company building, the inspiration for the typography.
The Pine
The pine, specifically the Eastern White Pine, is Maine’s state tree and a proud symbol for all Mainers.
Our Motto
The club motto extends the concept of the state motto, Dirigo (Latin for “I lead”), to encompass the club’s central symbol of hope and strength, the heart.
We believe that each and every one of us possesses an internal compass to guide ourselves, our communities, and our club to become the best versions of ourselves. It is evidenced in the conviction, care, and ingenuity inherent to Mainers, which the club sets out to reflect on and off the field.
