Masashi (ma-SAH-she) Wada returns to Portland Hearts of Pine for his second season having appeared in 27 matches, starting 25, and logged 2,236 minutes on the field, contributing 9 goals while helping Portland establish a dynamic attack in its first professional season.
Masashi joined Hearts from Thespa Gunma in Japan’s J2 League, where he played in 2024. A native of Japan, he began his youth career with Yokohama F. Marinos in 2010 and progressed to the senior team in the J1 League in 2016. He later played for SC Sagamihara (53 appearances, 5 goals), followed by Iwate Grulla Morioka, before joining Thespa Gunma. As of early 2022, he totaled 111 league appearances and 14 goals across various Japanese leagues.
Introduced to Hearts of Pine by Goalkeeper Coach Yuta Nomura, Masashi was inspired by the energy and passion of both the team and supporters, making the move to the U.S. an easy decision in 2025.
