5,000 deposits for Portland Hearts of Pine’s new USL W League team sold out in one hour, underscoring the community’s excitement for women’s soccer in Maine.
PORTLAND, Maine — Portland Hearts of Pine announced today that season ticket deposits for its newly launched USL W League team sold out in just one hour, marking a major milestone for the future of women’s soccer in Maine.
The rapid sellout comes shortly after the club announced that its women’s team will begin play in May 2027, bringing a new pathway for girls and women in soccer to Maine and expanding Hearts of Pine’s growing impact across the state.
“This is an incredible moment for our club and for soccer in Maine,” said Gabe Hoffman-Johnson, Founder and Chief Community Officer of Portland Hearts of Pine. “At a time when the world is focused on the World Cup and the massive scale of global soccer, this is a reminder of what makes the game so powerful: community. Selling out women’s season ticket deposits in record time shows that Maine is ready, the belief is real, and the future of soccer here is incredibly bright.”
The USL W League team will become the next chapter in Hearts of Pine’s community-first vision, joining the club’s USL League One men’s team and further strengthening the club’s commitment to building soccer pathways across Maine.
“This milestone is about more than ticket demand,” said Hanna Sirois, Hearts of Pine Vice President of Fan Experience. “It shows the appetite for women’s soccer in Maine, the strength of this community, and the opportunity we have to build something lasting for the next generation of players and fans.”
Demand for the women’s team reflects the broader momentum around Hearts of Pine since the club’s launch, with supporters continuing to show up for the club’s matches, community events, merchandise, and now the first opportunity to support the women’s team ahead of its inaugural season.
“To see deposits for our women’s team sell out in an hour shows just how deeply this community believes in what we are building. Maine is ready for this team, and we are so grateful to everyone who stepped forward to be part of it from the very beginning,” Hoffman-Johnson said.
Additional information about the USL W League team, including staffing, roster, schedule, and additional ticketing details, will be shared in the coming months.
