Our hearts ache for Joan Sebastian Guerrero’s family who lost a son, a brother, a husband, and a father; for Maine’s immigrant community being targeted by ICE; and for the people of Biddeford grieving the loss of a neighbor.
I’m not an expert on any of this. None of us are. We’re Mainers who started a soccer club to make the greatest possible impact in the city and state we call home, to do all we can to lead with our hearts.
The mission of this club has always been to cultivate a community that not only communes around soccer, but one that strengthens the bonds between all those who have their hearts in Maine. Soccer is a unifying force that transcends borders, languages, and backgrounds. In these moments when communing is more important than ever, this sport continues to be a way for Mainers to come together.
When we do come together, we see ourselves in others, and the collective power of our humanity grows stronger. That is what this game is all about. That is what this club is all about. We will continue to create these communal gathering spaces defined by joy, inclusivity, and acceptance.
We stand with our neighbors in demanding ICE be held accountable for their actions. Every Mainer deserves the right to safety and security in their own community. Please join us in supporting the organizations listed below as they provide immediate support, advocacy, and care to the families in our community who need it most.
